Too cute 2 year old Channing {oklahoma children photographer}

Channing came up to Yukon to see me last week.  She is a cutie!  I have been lucky enough to photograph her and her little brother Traber since they were both babies!  I met her and her mother early morning and we made our way to the location.  By "we made our way to the location" I mean we took a bit of time to get there.  Why?  Well, because though I had been there 50+ times, I decided to take a shortcut.  The kind of shortcut that takes you the wrong way and you have to re-find yourself!!  Luckily Kristin is such a good sport and just laughed at me.

Once we finally arrived at the location, we set the scene and got to shooting.  We battled a little wind, but used it to our advantage.  Now, by battling the wind, I am saying it was a serious battle.  I opened the reflector and immediately the wind whipped around and "reflector slapped" Channing.  Luckily she's a trooper and kind of just looked at me like "why did you do that?" rather than getting mad and crying.  I was so glad!  I think the wind ended up playing a good roll in this shot and it turned out terrific!

After a quick change of location and a little clothing change, we settled in on outfit 2.  She read Brown Bear, Brown Bear and fed her baby.  Nothing attacked her here like my reflector, but soon she started getting a little over the whole 2 year pictures thing.  Momma picked her up and I got a couple more shots that are just fantastic!

2012 PROM FASHION SHOOTS!!!

It is that time of the year when standing in line at Wal-Mart you see "Prom Fashion" "5 looks to pull off for this years prom" all the magazines are getting you amped up for prom season.  I am definitley out of the, "man I am excited for prom!" stage.  well, I don't know if I was ever actually in that stage?  The jury is still out on that.  BUT, I do remember what it was like for the girls to be freakin out about what their dress was going to look like.  Who got what dress, where did they buy it, what color and style is this years hottest, or whatever.  I know the pride you girls get when picking out that dress and how you feel in it.  the "oh you look beautiful!", "THATS the dress", "blue makes you look amazing" comments come in and you, as a high school girl, probably feel better than you will ever feel up until you get your wedding dress on!  My wife, 10 year graduate from high school, haha, still likes her dresses from prom when we went together.  She mentioned how she would of LOVED to have some good photos taken in her dress.  Something more fun than standing in front of a cardboard castle, or what ever the theme is for the year.  So, it got me thinking; I really like shooting fashion photos, and girls really like getting dressed up in their dresses. So, in the words of Russel Westbrook, Why Not? have a Prom Fashion shoot!  So I did.

THEN, I did another one, and the girls I photographed, Jenni and Sierra, and myself have been getting so many compliments on them!

Lets review: prom season, happy girls, prom dresses, fashion shoot, compliments....
Prom background CHEESY - My stye NOT CHEESY
Prom background GAG - My photos NOT GAG
easy enough right?

Here's the thing.  You buy this dress that you are probably going to only wear once.  Then you will put it in the closet.  When you get in college you will try and sale it for 1/3 or less of what you bought it for.  That is great, but come on....   Put the dress on and lets get some photos that you and your family will cherish forever!

So, without further a do.

SWOSU Purple Night -Epilepsy Awareness

January 23, 2012, Southwestern Oklahoma State University held an Epilepsy Awareness "Purple Night" at their home basketball games.  I was asked to photograph and cover this event for a friend and client of mine who lost their child, Kylee McCown, to Epilepsy.  It was nice to see all the people out to support the family.  People of all ages supporting the cause by wearing their purple!!

Trinity Johnson, Kylee's uncle gave an excellent speech at halftime of the boys game.  Which was very insightful.  If you are like me and know very little about Epilepsy and what the disorder is, here is a quick explanation of what Epilepsy is:
"Epilepsy is a medical condition that produces seizures affecting a variety of mental and physical functions. It is also called a seizure disorder. When a person has two or more unprovoked seizures, they are   considered to have epilepsy. Seizures happen when clusters of nerve cells in the brain signal abnormally, which may briefly alter a person's consciousness, movements or actions."
                                                                      -Epilepsy Foundation Homepage

Also, Here are some quick facts of Epilepsy:
-About 2.7 million Americans have Epilepsy.
-Epilepsy is more common than Cerebral Palsy, Multiple Sclerosis, and Parkinson’s disease combined.
-This year another 200,000 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with epilepsy.
This is a disorder people need to be educated about!  It sucks that something had to happen to a wonderful young lady in this community for it to be brought to light.

During halftime of both games, some of Kylee's dance team got together and did a routine which was pretty awesome.  The dance team had won National and State titles in dance in earlier years when Kylee was on the team.  Also, a solo dance was performed by @merrisamclean , which was amazing.  Take it from me, I know dance.  In my top 10 movies lies, Step Up 1-3, Stomp the Yard, You Got Served, amongst others.  Also, during the games, friends and family had set up a bake sale with SO much grub.  Which I sampled and it was ridiculously good!  Especially the dipped pretzel sticks, whoever made those..... THUMBS UP.  Face painting, tshirt sales, they had it all!  It was an excellent evening to honor a great young lady.

I don't know who said it or I would give them credit, and I probably misquoted but... "Cherish the time you have with the ones you love.  Because you aren't guaranteed a tomorrow"

Your have been and will be missed Kylee Jo....
